Five years ago, the last thing on my radar was sobriety, a husband and especially a baby! I was obsessed with work, wine, work, vodka, work and sometimes I’d bake.
On March 4, 2012, I made a decision to turn my life around and walked into the rooms of a 12 step program. (I’ll save the details for another post some other day)
On November 3rd 2012, I had a first date with the man of my dreams! Lou and I were both sober, Jewish and a close friend thought we were the perfect match. She set us up at a birthday party and just before I arrived, she told him, “I’m going to introduce you to your future wife”. One year later, on November 3rd, 2013, we were married in my parents backyard. And again two weeks later in front of all our friends.
I spent half the evening of our first date laughing (no thanks to the not so great comedy show we went to) and haven’t stopped since. Lou gives me butterflies, makes my heart flutter and has encouraged me to grow so much. He supports me in finding things I’m passionate about and has taught me that life shouldn’t revolve around work. I quit my job, returned to school for Interior Design and we spent a lot of time traveling to incredible destinations.
A week after finishing school, we found out I was pregnant!! We agreed it was important I focus all my attention on being a mommy and build a business when Ryder is a bit older. While I was excited to embark on this new chapter in life, I wasn’t sure what to think of motherhood. I was afraid it would prevent me from ever returning to a career and that I would lose my identity. Instead, I’ve found it.
I have never felt more fulfilled by anything than I have as a mom. Most days are filled with challenge and growth but I often go to bed with contentment, pride and a little spit up in my hair. I am excited to see what the future brings and hope to share some of my silly adventures along the way.
